Last week, one of our customers came to us and asked if we could help him find suitable homes for his two puppies. Blitz, a 4 month old GSD, and Diesel, a 2 month old Rottie. His sit
uation had changed and he was no longer able to care for the puppies, and would have no choice but to take them to a shelter. We agreed to take these boys in.

Since being surrendered to us, Blitz found a forever home with one of our staff members, Marissa and her husband, and has since been renamed Aubin, and is enjoying being loved, spoiled, and played with. He is enrolled in our net training class, and is settling in to his new home well. We are so happy for this new little family!

Now we are looking for the same happy beginning for Diesel, the 2.5 month old Rottie puppy.

Here's a little bit about this special little boy.

He is up to date of vaccines.

He is friendly, gentile, and sweet.

He is learning manners at Ruff House, but being a baby still needs a lot of direction and guidance.

We are actively working on crate training with him. He is doing well.

His adoption fee is $200. This is to help cover his care while with us, as well as to ensure that he goes to a loving home. Also included in his adoption are two months of training completely complimentary through our facility. (a $200 value) 1 half-day daycare credit (a $15 value) as well as a 30lb bag of Taste of the Wild dog food (a $49 value!) and 10% off any treats or toys purchased same-day.

We will be requiring that his new adoptive family begin basic training classes within 30 days of the adoption. Of course our classes with Ryan Gwilliam are complimentary, but it is not required that the new family take our class. Any class will do. We will only let Diesel go to a home that has an understanding of this breed, and what their needs are, and who is prepared to put the effort into training that Diesel needs to be a well rounded pet. He is a blank canvas, and will make a fantastic companion.

Let's Talk About Kennel Cough

With Kennel Cough season upon us, it's important that you understand this small risk of having your dog around other pets. While the pros of socializing your pet far outweigh whatever risk Kennel Cough might pose, it's important to us that all our doggy parents understand this basic illness.

What is Kennel Cough, anyway?
Kennel Cough is very much like the common cold for humans. While there is a vaccine for Kennel Cough, which we require all our canine guests to be up-to-date on, it is rather ineffective at fully preventing infection, but might help.

What are the symptoms of kennel cough?
The most obvious symptom of kennel cough is a dry, hacking cough.Some dogs experience a decrease in energy and/or appetite as well.

How might my dog get kennel cough?
Kennel Cough, like the common cold, is very contagious. Your dog might get it by direct contact with an infected dog, contact with an infected item, or by breathing it in airborne. Very young puppies, senior dogs, or dogs with an otherwise compromised immune system are more likely to show symptoms. The more dogs are exposed to other dogs, the more their immune system has a chance of building a defense against illness. It is generally the young, the old, and the underexposed that we see show symptoms. There is absolutely no way to socialize your pet with zero rick of kennel cough.

What do I do if my dog gets kennel cough?
If your dog is showing the symptoms of kennel cough, the best idea is usually to let it run its course. Within a week, most dogs are on the mend and good as new. Very seldom, and typically in very young or very old dogs, Kennel cough can advance to a respiratory infection which vets may prescribe antibiotics for. In either case, it's important they drink plenty of fresh water, and are kept in a warm, comfortable place. We always recommend using a natural supplement with immune-system boosting qualities any time dogs might be ill such as Goldenseal/ Echinacia or even Vitamin C.

What Does Ruff House do to prevent my dog from getting Kennel Cough in their care?
There is no way to completely prevent a dog from getting kennel cough unless he is never allowed to leave the house, and visitors are never allowed over. Kennel Cough is airborne. It is contagious. That being said, we take many preventative measures to help prevent the spread of illness in our facility.

1. Our facility is cleaned top to bottom all day long. This includes the outdoor doggy turf, the floors, walls, kennels, and furniture. We also wash our toys on a regular basis.
2. We require all our guests to be appropriately vaccinated.
3. We never allow any dogs showing any signs of illness to join us.
4. Should a dog show any symptoms while in our care, they are immediately isolated, and someone is contacted to come pick the dog up. If no one is available to do so, the dog is transported to the vet.
5. Any urine or fecal matter is cleaned up immediately.
6. We use food grade peroxide in our water bowls to cleanse the water and help prevent spread of illness that way.
7. Food bowls are washed between every use.
8. Kennels are deep cleaned between boarding guests, and throughout the week.

Despite all these precautions, it is simply impossible to completely prevent all dogs from getting kennel cough, especially this time of year. Just like kids will bring a cold home from school at some point, most dogs that are properly socialized will at some point catch a cold. We do ask that if your dog ever goes home and shows signs of kennel cough that you alert us immediately so that we can we on extra close watch, and inform our guests whom are more apt to get it such as young puppies or senior dogs.

Meet Murphy

As a continuation of our "Meet the Staff" series, we found it appropriate to introduce a certain little Cocker Spaniel, too. So, meet Murphy!

If your dog has been to Ruff House, they have undoubtedly met Murphy. He's a senior Cocker Spaniel that has lived at our facility for the last year. We're not sure exactly how old he is, he's a rescue out of San Diego. He came to join us last year when Linsey, one of Ruff House's two owners, rescued him several years after meeting him quite a few years ago. The original plan was for Murphy to go live with her once she was finished moving, but Murphy had other ideas. He made Ruff House his home, where he is very content and undoubtedly happy. The attempt to move him to a new environment was unsuccessful, and too overwhelming for this sweet old man.

Murphy is loved and doted on every day by the wonderful staff members at Ruff House. He is happy and wiggly every morning, and loves afternoon snoozes on the couch while he gets massaged by the staff.

Murphy sports several different haircuts, and we get a lot of questions about why we let his hair cover his eyes. The simple answer: Murphy is 100% blind, and has been for most of his life. We had one eye removed that became infected repeatedly his entire life. The open floor plan of our facility suits his needs perfectly. We keep the water bowls and furniture in the same place every day to make life as easy as possible for him. He gets around just fine.

He gets along with dogs big and small. One day he might be keeping a scared little Yorkie company, and the next he's running with a pack of Great Danes and Goldens in the big dog yard.

Daycare passes are a fantastic way to make this service more affordable to do frequently. Proper socialization is so important for dogs of all ages, and starting puppies off on the right paw sure makes it easier to ensure that your canine companion develops into a good doggy citizen. Even with proper socialization as a youngster, it is important to continue socializing your pooch with different places, people, and animals for the entirety of their lives.We offer a variety of different daycare options to fit everyone's individual needs. Whether you're interested in daily daycare, or once a month daycare, we've got a pass to make it more affordable.

5 Day Pass: $90 ($10 savings)
10 Day Pass: $160 ($40 savings)
15 Day Pass: $225 ($75 savings)
Monthly Unlimited Pass: $275 Up to $265 savings on daycare alone, PLUS an additional 15 minutes of daycare per day, additional discounts on boarding, and late boarding pickup fees waived

Now, we are adding two passes to our lineup that are specifically for doggies that are new to Ruff House: our Warm Up to Daycare passes! Avaliable in both full day and half day options, this pass offers three days of daycare, heavily discounted to encourage our new furry guests to get accustomed to our facility before boarding. It's also an excellent way to warm up to regular daycare visits, too!

Why is it important to warm up to daycare before boarding?

We off a safe, fun environment for our guests to play with other well socialized dogs. While most social dogs have a blast playing with their new human and canine friends, it can be quite intimidating at first. By experiencing three frequent visits befor

e being left in our facility for overnight boarding, it allows the dogs to become familiar with their surroundings, and they realize that they aren't being left forever. This is especially important for recent rescues, dogs that have never experienced boarding before, a

nd dogs prone to separation anxiety. While we recognize the benefits of warming up to daycare to be most beneficial for new guests prior to boarding, and new guests are welcome to take advantage of the savings!

Pass Expiration Times

The Monthly Unlimited pass expires 30 days from the date of purchase.

The Warm up to Daycare passes expire 21 days after the date of purchase, and is only available for purchase during the 30 days following your pets interview, AND in the 30 days leading up to a boarding visit.

All other passes expire one year after the date of purchase.

As we approach the chaotic, but oh so fun Holiday season, we get questions about everything! We love helping pet owners make great decisions for their individual pets, so most of our frequently asked questions simply do not have a one size fits all answer. Even our daily procedures get tweaked based on our unique play group that day. But, one of the few things that is the same across the board are payment times, acceptable methods, and our business hours.

Business Hours

We are open Monday through Friday from 7:30am until 7pm. Daycare services end at 6pm.

On Saturday, we open at 9am and close at 7pm. Daycare services end at 6pm.

Sundays we are open for SCHEDULED boarding pick up and drop offs only.

On most major holidays we are closed for all services, and on some h

olidays we have modified business hours closing at 5pm, with daycare ending at 4pm. The best way to keep up with what these days are is to receive our monthly newsletter, full of coupons, special offers, and a calendar of our special events and adjusted business hours.

Payment Options

We accept cash, debit cards, and all major credit cards. We no longer accept personal checks as payment for any services rendered, or products purchased.

DAYCARE payment can be made either at drop off or pickup. If you wish to purchase a pass, payment for that pass is due on the first day of daycare that is applied to the pass. Once a daycare pass has been used, they will not be returned or credited in any way.

BOARDING payment is due at the time you drop off your pet. If you pick up your pet early, a credit will be applied to your account. If your plans change, and we can accommodate your pet for additional nights beyond your original reservation, additional charges will be put on the credit card on file, unless other arrangements have been agreed upon. If you will not be dropping off or picking up your pet, payment can be made prior to the stay, or made over the phone.

We do NOT issue refunds after boarding payment has been collected for any reason.

GROOMING payment is due at the time of pickup. The reason for this is that while we rarely include additional fees, excess matting or aggressive behavior requiring an additional set of hands for handling may not be evident at the time of drop off. At drop off, you may request an estimate quote, which will be within $10 of your total charge.

RETAIL payment is due at the time a product is purchased.

TRAINING classes require a non-refundable deposit which is due at the time of reserving your pet's spot in the class. If you wish to surrender your dog's place in the reserved class, you may use your deposit towards the next training class scheduled. Full payment is due upon the first class.

Credits

If you are overcharged as an error on our part, a refund will be issued in a speedy fashion.

Any remaining balance for unused boarding nights will remain on your account for on year's time. These credits can be applied to any products or services we offer at any time during that year, with no restrictions.

How Long Have You Worked at Ruff House?

Well, that depends on what counts! I began working at Ruff House as part of the daycare staff in January 2009. I moved away after my wedding in December 2009, and after just a couple months I missed Ruff House and Utah so much I made the move back to Orem, only this time I returned as a partner to Tarah and have been here since April 2010! I'm not going anywhere any time soon, this is my home.

What is Your Favorite Part of Working at Ruff House?

Oh gosh, there are so many. While there is nothing quite like being greeted by a pack of 20 happy dogs every morning, I would have to say the absolute best part of my job has been the amazing people I get to work with and that I get to be a part of something I truly love. Tarah has become not just a business partner but also an irreplaceable best friend in this crazy journey we call life. I also really love helping people with their dog's nutrition, as it's a HUGE passion of mine. Bringing my own furkids to work with me is of course up there on the long list of reasons I absolutely love what I do.

What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?

It's crazy to say, but I feel like I'm 22 and living my dream. When I was little I always said I wanted to own a "doggy hotel" and that's exactly what I do! I hope to get more involved with helping people sort out their pet's nutritional needs, and I really want to be a mother in the near future, but I'd say as far as my career is concerned, I'm quite satisfied right where I'm at.

Well, I'm 22, and married to the most wonderful man in the world. His name is Jon, maybe you've heard of him? Haha. I have a passion for dogs and my husband and I have 5 Great Danes and a Boxer of our own. In my free time I study canine nutrition and home prepared diets for hours a day, and really enjoy helping people feed raw to their pet carnivores. I've lived in 5 states in the last 3 years, but Utah has really become my home. I hope to become a mom in the next two years, and then just see where life takes me!

How Long Have You Worked At Ruff House?

Well, I have worked there since the beginning. I opened Ruff House in May of 08'. One of the best decisions of my life. All the guests, customers, and staff that have passed through have added so much joy and memories that I will forever store in my soul.

What Is Your Favorite Part Of Ruff House?

I love when I first show up at Ruff House and all the dogs are excited for me to enter the yard. As soon as I enter the yard they all walk by my side and follow me with their tails wagging and their tongues flopping around. I love reaching down and touching each and every dog to let them feel the love I have for them, they feel it and give me love right back..yummy, its soo good to have the love of an animal.

What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?

Hopefully, I don't have to grow up, I really do enjoy being a kid. I have been a hairdresser, a bagel baker, a kindergarten teacher, a waitress, a yoga/meditation teacher, a dog trainer and a business owner so far in my life. I love being around animals and I love being domestic and trying to live off the land practicing being self-sufficient, as much as I can. Honestly, I hope to try out many more things in my days ahead of me, I don't ever want to stop experiencing the joys of life.

I currently live in Nashville, Tennessee with the man of my dreams. We live on 7 acres of land. We garden and farm and soon will be raising livestock. I love animals and communicate with them very easily. I have found their companionship to be the very thing that has shown me the depths of my soul. I love to be outside and listen to the birds and insects making their music. Utah has been my home and my spirit will forever be there. I love the fresh mountain air and miss living up those beautiful mountains. Most of all I miss the wonderful dogs that would greet me daily at Ruff House, they make you feel so safe and loved.

Yes, I have two dogs Sekoya the famous little golden retriever who used to greet dogs as they walked into the lobby of Ruff House and a German Shepherd that I adopted, per se, when I joined my life with my love. Both girls add so much joy to my life, truly a woman's best friend!!

I've been here a little over a year (since last October) and it's been awesome.

What's your favorite part of working at Ruff House?

I love getting to know all the different personalities and habbits of the dogs. I enjoy working with them at their level. I have learned a lot from our dogs and they make my job a lot of fun.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I just want to work with dogs. I would love to open my own daycare/training facility. I really want to work with therapy/service dogs too. I think it's amazing what dogs can do and what they can teach us. I want others to know how awesome dogs really are and help them connect with their furry friends. Some unhappy people believe that dogs are nothing more than parasites living off their owners. These people are missing out on so much and have surely never had a relationship with a dog. I couldn't imagine life without all of my doggy friends.

I grew up in southern California (Antelope Valley area) and my family currently lives in Florida. I just got married a little over two months ago. I have never had a job that doesn't involve animals. I attended BYU for four years. I am working on getting my dog training certification. I'm also a huge geek and I'm so excited for Avengers with Joss Whedon!

Do you have any pets?

I've had all sorts of pets growing up. My family has a rat terrier named Scamp and a cat named Sabrina. As soon as I have enough money to care for a dog, my husband and I are moving to a pet friendly area and I'm getting a golden retriever (probably a rescue). :)

I love everything about my job, these dogs are my life.

I really enjoy getting to know each one of their personalities they are all so wonderful, I can never get enough of them. They bring so much happiness into my life, this job is my passion.

What I want to be when you " grow up "?

When I was younger, and asked this question my answer was always " Super Hero ". Now a days I know that is just a dream but I could never see myself doing anything but working with dogs. I am going to school for graphic arts not sure what I am going to do with it. Most likely just keep doing the newsletter here. This is what I am meant to do even when I was young I was ether reading comic books or anything about dogs. From all of the breeds out there, To there anatomy. I was in school for a while to become a vet but I decided I would rather see animals happy then see them sick.

I guess this is my calling in life :).

About me?

Well I am 23 years old, I am going to school at Stevens Henager Collage I enjoy it. I am an artist I love anything creative, painting, drawing, poetry, or making things. I am into yoga, hiking, outdoorsy stuff is always wonderful. But in the winter if I am not at work you will find me hiding in my house playing my video games. It is one of my vices. Lets see I am really into tattoos I have 23 I think.... Its hard to keep up with them sometimes. I am very family oriented my family is my first priority in life. I love music, I am always singing the dogs seem to enjoy it I am not sure about the humans though. Dancing is a need in my life I can not get enough of it. I am from Utah and will most likely be here forever. I do want to travel one of these days. Well that is enough about me I could go no babbling forever if I let myself :)

I have 3 cats, a dog, and a hamster.

My dogs name is Ichigo most of you have met her. She is a Corgie/Heeler mix and is 2 yrs old. She is a handful, but so am I she learns from the best.

My Cats.

Baby is 6 yrs old. She is so funny she will go into my neighbors yard and gather nuts from there tree then bring them to me as gifts it cracks me up.

Then Tofu she is 2yrs old, unlike Baby she is a hunter she will bring me birds instead of nuts. She is so funny when you look at her she looks cross eyed it is the funniest thing.

The last of my cats is Bruce Wayne, She is 1 1/2 years old. Yes Bruce is a girl I could help but name here that it looks like she is wearing a batman mask. She is the spaz of them all, one minute she will be clam and cuddly and the next she will be up the door frame just hanging there.

Then there is my hamster his name is Toki Wartooth. He doesn't do much other then be cute and fluffy. They are all my furrie babies I would be lost without them.

I have worked at Ruff House now for about 5 months.

What is your favorite part of working at Ruff House?

My absolute favorite part of working at Ruff House is the simple joy of interacting with all the dogs and playing with them. I also enjoy learning more about different breeds as well as working with the different personalities of the doggies that come to Ruff House.

What do you want to be when you "grow up"?

I am considering taking classes from the Animal Behavior College to become a dog trainer, but for now I am working on completing my GE at BYU.

Tell us more about you!

I am 21 years old and I grew up in Beaverton, Oregon. I got married this past June and my husband, Kevin, and I enjoy road biking as well as camping and hiking. I have been a dog lover at heart since I was in elementary school, so on my free time I enjoy reading about different breeds as well as different training philosophies. I also enjoy spending time with my family and watching movies.

Do you have any pets?

Unfortunately, I do not have any pets at this time. The apartment my husband and I live in doesn't allow pets. We plan on getting 1 or 2 dogs within the next couple of years when we move, though. We would like to get a Doberman and a Golden Retriever.

What is your favorite part of working at Ruff House?

Well obviously getting to play with dogs all day is awesome! I love getting to know all of our customers and their 4-legged babies. I love learning about canine communication and getting to understand these amazing creatures every day.

What do you want to be when you "grow up"?

I want to be a professional dog trainer! I would love to be able to one day travel around the country talking to people and kids about understanding how to communicate with dogs and how to be safe around them.

Tell us more about you!

Currently I am attending Animal Behavior College to get my ABC Certification in dog training. I intend to do lots of extended education programs with them after that and also want to learn about training service dogs, search and rescue dogs, Sniff dogs, etc. I love art, movies and movie making, camping, and anything that involves getting to spend time with other people.

Do you have any pets?

Yes! I have a 1 1/2 year old Border Collie/Heeler mix named "Suki." She is quite a handful but I love her lots and she has been an awesome help with my training ^_^

How long have you worked at Ruff House?

Well, that depends on what counts? In early 2010 Jon officially became a Ruff House team member, but was a familial face through 2009 and has been a great help with caring for the dogs, and basic repairs just as long.

What is your favorite part of working at Ruff House?

Being with the dogs! Playing with them, interacting with them, learning their personalities. Some of them are such comedians.

What do you want to be when you "grow up"?

I'm in school for Forensic Chemistry, but sometimes I can't imagine doing anything else but working with dogs.

Tell us more about you.

Well, I was married in December 2009, and we live in Orem with our six dogs and three cats. Yeah, six dogs. So, it's kid of like daycare at home, too. When I'm not at school, or Ruff House, or my other job, we go to the Sandy Dog Park a lot, or just hang out and watch a movie. That's the great thing about Great Danes- they're as mellow as I am.

Do you have any pets?

Me? pets? NEVER! Just kidding. I have five Great Danes: Mousse, Zailey, Braxton, Timber, & Kola. And Annie the Boxer... and the three cats. I guess my wife and I are animal people.

What? Why no Refunds?!

It is traditional at boarding facilities to charge fees and deposits at the time of any reservation request. We have opted out of this practice as we don't like unnecessary charges as we do understand plans can change last minute and our goal is to offer the best service possible, at the most affordable prices possible.
Many people wonder about our "no refunds" policy. Why is it there? Is it just a scam to keep your money? Does it serve a purpose? Rest assured, we have no interest in scams or dishonesty, and our no refund policy is there for a reason, and we'd like to shed some light on that.
In the past, we have been rather laid back in this policy, however as our numbers have grown we are finding that our boarding kennels are full on all holidays, and many weekends. This results in us having to turn away dogs for services that we do not have room for. Any time a pet is picked up early, it opens up space that may have been previously denied to someone else. While we welcome early pickups, and have no penalty for them, while most other places do, we do not refund the amount paid at drop off.
At most boarding places, you would get no refund, or receive only a small portion of the fees for the unused services. We do not feel this harsh of a policy is necessary, and that is why we do give our guests 100% of their remaining balance back in the form of store credit, which can be used for any services or products we offer at Ruff House. These credits do not expire, and can be used at any time, including holidays and weekends. While payment is due at drop off for boarding services, and on the first day of home visit services, we strongly discourage payment prior to that just in case things change... unless of course, you don't mind having store credit with us!
We hope that you understand why this is necessary, and apologize for any inconvenience. This policy has always been in our contract, which we hope you read before signing, to ease any confusion or frustration.

Single Female Seeks Companionship

Meet Kymber. Kymber is a black lab and almost one year old. She does great with other dogs and is a submissive female. Her current owner has had her for four months, but their situation does not allow enough time to be devoted to her. Her owners love her very much and want to find her a home with people who have a little bit more time to give her the attention she deserves, and maybe even another doggy pal to play with. She is very social, and needs that kind of interaction. Kymber loves mountain biking and is very good about staying close. She is intelligent, and well behaved.

Strutt Your Mutt 2011 is almost here!

We love to care for your happy, healthy pets every day. Tails wagging, tongue panting... there's just no other sight like a happy hairy dog! They run, they play, they make all kinda of new friends to romp with, and at the end of the day, they get to go home with "mom and dad" to a warm cozy home to be treated like royalty. They get food and water every day, and companionship and love.

We wish this were the reality for ALL canines, but the sad reality is hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats all over the country are cold, hungry, and alone. They are without a food source, no warm bed by the fireplace to lay, no doting owner to pat them on the head and tell them how good they are, no place to call home. In an effort to help these animals, we are proud to participate in Strut Your Mutt, a charity event to help the No More Homeless Pets in Utah and Best Friend's Animal Society to raise funds for helping these unfortunate animals. We have all seen them: untrained dogs so unruly they not only run the show, but are destructive to property, and even people. Even the friendliest of animals pose a risk to not only society, but their lives. Remember that a jumping, chasing, and/or barking dog can be labeled by the law ”dangerous” just as quickly as a biting dog can. By not teaching your pet basic manners, you put their life at risk.

Training can be a very enjoyable bonding experience between owner and dog, and achieving such a positive experience is easy to do. Just keep a few basics in mind:

· Positive reinforcement paired with gentile corrections done using calm and loving energy are most easily understood by the canine brain, and therefore will produce the most long-lasting results.

· Group training sessions are vital. They not only provide socialization but also encourage better communication and bond between owner and dog through the challenge of following commands with distractions.

· Training is a daily activity for the entire life of your pet. It is not a start and finish process. This seals your bond and keeps it growing stronger daily.

We do offer a number of services to guide you along the way with your companion.

Train & Play: We now offer training services while your dog is with us in daycare. These sessions are tailored to your dog’s specific needs, and we customize a plan to suit your wants.

Classes: Training classes are held on Saturdays at Ruff House, and are done as 4 week courses. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced classes will be available as needed.

Individual In-Home Training: If for whatever reason, you are more comfortable with an in-home one-on-one program, we can help!

Training Tip: Consistency is key! It is very confusing for a dog to be allowed certain behaviors with one family member, and corrected for the same actions by another. For the quickest and most reliable results, it is important for your dog to know what is expected of them, and for EACH member of the house to follow through in the same way. As a family, agree on what words and hand signals will be used for each behavior. For example: Does "off" mean not to jump up, or does it mean to get off the furniture? Does "Down" mean not to jump up, or does it mean to lay down? Once the humans of the household have laid out the rules, it's everyone's job to communicate with your pets with consistency.

Puppies, Puppies Everywhere!!

We love getting new furry friends of all ages! Lately, we seem to have a steady flow of cute babies coming our way! We are so excited to b a part of their puppy hood, and we work on training every day in the play yard, to help them develop into well mannered doggie friends.
Addie is just the cutest little thing, and with SO much personality! She makes friends quickly in the play yards, and especially loves to play with Hanuman and Loche. She is a little ball of fire, as she plays "catch me if you can" with all her friends. Who could resist that sweet little face. We love Addie!!

Loche the Vizsla is our favorite kind of story. The kind that starts with a timid, unsure puppy, and ends with one happy, playful puppy! Loche used to be nervous to come play, but now, once she is in the play yard with all her canine buddies, she play, play, plays all day long! Loche has made so many new friends at Ruff House, and we simply adore this little lady. Just look at that sweet face, how could we not?!

We love all of our furry friends. It is especially fun to watch all the puppies flock together. Hanuman, Loche, Sophie, Addie, Tucker, and the rest of the baby dog group have all bonded so well.But how could we overlook our dignified, adult bunch?!
Dash, the world's busiest Boxer, loves to run and play. He's such a sweetheart.

This handsome boy, Tre, plays SO much with all his friends, it's almost impossible to get a picture of him! We enjoy playing with Tre during the week.

This pretty lady, Riley, isn't always so sure about the whole daycare thing, until she gets to the yard and sees all of her buddies waiting to play. Riley has been a guest of ours for quite some time now, and we always love to have her with us.
Need we even say anything, or does that picture speak 1000 words? Brutus is an absolute hoot! His fun-loving personality makes it easy for him to get along with any dog that comes his way, and he always keeps the staff laughing!Goofy boy!

We are so lucky to have so many furry friends, and we enjoy them every single day. Thank you for sharing all your wonderful animals with us, and letting us get to know them, and really enjoy them. We would love to spotlight them all, and in time, we just might! Stay tuned, and you just might see your fur baby up here next!

Sit. Stay. Play. Training classes are back!

Our last round of puppy classes was so much fun, we've decided to do it all over again! Beginning Saturday, March 19th, we will start another six week course of Basic Training all over again. Training is an excellent way to not only transform your dog into a well-rounded, enjoyable canine companion, but also serves as an exceptional means of bonding. The realtionship formed between you and your pet through gentile corrections combined with a lot of positive reinforcement is incredible. Trainers Tarah Harding and Molli Baker are dedicated to helping you help your pet. In this course, we will cover ALL the basics...

sit, stay, down, leave it, drop it, take it, settle, cradle, word recognition, and even more.

Mark your calendars, folks! Friday, February 11th, 2011 the Ruff House Doggy Bag will be stocked and open for business. We look forward to bringing in great names like The Honest Kitchen, Wellness, Zukes, Tripett, Bravo, Animal Essentials, and PetLou to our lineup of food, treats, toys, and supplements. We are so excited to be able to offer more holistic and natural choices for nutrition, as well as health aids such as digestive enzymes, fish oils, tinctures, and remedies.

Ruff House TRAINING classes Starting January!

While at Ruff House, we love to romp and play and have a grand ol' time, we never overlook the importance of good, solid behavior training.
Having a dog can be one of life's most enriching experiences. On the other hand, if your pet is unruly, it can be a nightmare. Not only is an unruly dog less enjoyable, but it also put's that dog at risk of having the label of "Dangerous Dog" in society. A "Dangerous Dog" by legal definition does not mean aggressive, but rather any dog that puts other people and pets in danger while in their presence. This can mean things such as bolting out of an open door, jumping up on people, not coming when called, etc.We have taken note of the lack of training resources available in the area, and we're here to help! Beginning Saturday, January 8th, 2010 We will hold Weekly Training sessions with Trainer and one of the Ruff House Founders: Tarah Harding! This will be a six week course held Every Saturday from 3pm-4pm, immediately following our Puppy Socialization classes.
Tarah will help you learn how to properly train your dog, using positive methods that will not only help transform your pet into a well-behaved enjoyable companion, but also help strengthen the bond you share with your furry friend.Over the course of six weeks, you will learn how to properly teach:

Recall: getting your dog to come when called- despite distractions
SitCradle: Getting your dog to settle in a submissive position, and relax calmly

Sequoia demonstrates a proper "leave it" despite lots of temptation! What a good girl. The leave it command not only makes for super cute pictures, but it can even be a life-saving command if your dog is near something harmful or dangerous. Here's Max perfectly demonstrating "wait" with Tarah. The wait command is especially important for preventing your pet from dashing out in dangerous situations, such as busy streets, or around children that could easily be knocked over.

Beyond just behavior training, some tricks are just plain cute, as Mendo demonstrates "Shake" or "Paw" with Tarah.

The Holidays are Great for Romping and playing!

The holiday season is one of our very favorite times of the year! Sure the Christmas and New Year's festivities are fun, but what we really like best, is having a full house of doggies to play with and love on.We have loved taking care of these pooches while their owners have been away, and are so thankful they found us! We hope that everyone is having a safe and happy Holiday Season!!

Mylo- a recent rescue- has been playing with us at Ruff House for the Holidays! He's so sweet, we couldn't help but fall in love with him! Just look at that face. He is a perfect example of the beautiful, loving pets waiting in shelters for their forever homes.
Kodi loves to play fetch with the staff! He made a new friend today-Bear, another yellow lab who equally loves the ball-chasing game! Our staff have really gotten attached to this handsome boy during his stay, and we love to play with him!
Mendo and Carter made best friends very quickly and have enjoyed romping and playing with each other. Here they are in a classic play bow, excited to have made new best friends!
Even our older guests have their place at Ruff House. Lucky Dog (who boards with sister Hannah) and Pexi (who is staying with his sister, Winnie) both like to find the most comfy place in the play yard, and lay comfortably to watch all the youngins romp around! These boys have been inseparable the last couple days. What sweet dogs.

St. Bernard Mix seeking FOREVER Home!

Sadie is an almost-one-year-old St. Bernard mix. She is sweet, and playful, and needs a new home to be hers forever, as her current owner is being forced to give her up due to a bi-law at her rental.
Sadie is potty trained, and is working hard on being a well-mannered girl. She loves baths, and walks. She gets along well with other dogs, and people, though she can be timid at times.

We look forward to having your doggies stay with us over Christmas and New Year's holidays, so get those reservations in before it's too late. We had a full house for Thanksgiving, and it's looking to be the same over Christmas.

Friday, December 24th- CLOSED. No daycare, or boarding drop offs/ pick ups.

Friday, December 31st- Daycare will run from 8am to 4pm, and lobby closes at 5pm.
Saturday, January 1st- CLOSED for daycare, or boarding drop offs/ pick ups.

It is especially helpful during this busy, busy time of year for our daycare hours to be observed. This allows us to give the very best care to our overnight boarding guests. Please have your daycare pooches picked up by 6pm Monday-Saturday, unless otherwise specified. Thank you so much!!

A Time for Giving Thanks, Love, and PLAYING!

We had a full house over Thanksgiving weekend, and it was so much fun! We made lots of new friends, and got to know each one of them. The Holidays are such a special time of the year, and we are so happy to be able to share it with all of you and your wonderful pets. Mac and Summer are perfect examples of what great friendships dogs can make while they're staying with us. These two were inseparable during their visits. What a cute little "couple".

5 Day Pass: $80 ($20 savings!)
10 Day Pass: $150 ($50 savings!)
15 Day Pass: $225 ($75 savings!)
Monthly Unlimited Pass: $250 (Up to $290 Daycare Savings, PLUS added perks!)

Our 5 day pass is an excellent way to save a little on infrequent visits. Out 10 day pass is great for semi-frequent visits, or for multiple dog families who com play every now and then. The fifteen day pass is ideal for those who come to daycare a couple times a week, but don't need all that playtime every day. None of these options expire, either!
The Monthly Unlimited pass is by far the best deal! For $250, your pup has unlimied access to daycare SIX days per week, no reservation needed! That's Monday thru Friday, 8am-6pm and Saturday 9am-6pm of fun and play all day! In addition of up to $230 in daycare savings, you also get discounted boarding rates! The usual $25/night drops all the way down to just $12/night!The Monthly Unlimited pass expires 30 days after the purchase date.

Zola the Rottie has been coming to Ruff House since she was just a tiny little puppy in our Saturday Puppy Socialization classes! She has so many friends in daycare, there's always someone to play with!

Recharging for More Play!

At Ruff House, our furry friends play so much upon arrival in the mornings, that by late afternoon, they generally all zonk out for a quick puppy nap to recharge for more romping and playing with their friends. This is one of our favorite times of the day, because we get to love on all the sleepy doggies, and get super cute pictures to share with everyone!

A very sleepy Jaeger takes a break from playing with his buddies. Sweet 'Lucky Dog' likes to find a comfy spot to lay a few times a day, to rest and observe all the 'youngsters' romping and playing. Such a sweet boy!
Annie LOVES to play with her friends at Ruff House five days a week, but sometimes, she needs to recharge on the comfy couch.

It's so important for puppies to learn how to communicate with other dogs, but these babies need extra rest. Ahhhh this is the life!

Raider's playtime breaks never last long, as he just loves to go, go, go!!

Salem Pet Fair 2010

Of course at Ruff House or favorite thing to do is play with all our cute furball friends, but coming in a close second is being out and about in this community that we love so much. On Saturday, Sep. 25th, we were lucky enough to take part in the Salem Pet Fair.
We met so many cute little doggies, and had so much fun telling people all about Ruff House. We hope to see some of our new friends romping and playing with us soon!!!

Two great dogs seeking forever homes!!

At Ruff House, we are lucky enough to come into contact with wonderful dogs every single day. For the most part, the dogs we see have wonderful, loving, forever homes with families who love and adore them. Every now and then, the dogs we meet aren't quite as lucky. While these dogs have loving foster homes and the excellent care of the Arctic Breed Rescue they are both in search of their forever homes and a family to call their very own. If you are interested in either of these lovely dogs, please, let us know or contact Utah's Arctic Breed Rescue directly.

Meet Kaaos
Kaaos is a 8 month old Siberian Husky. She is very playful, good with other dogs and friendly. Like any Siberian Kaaos will need a well fenced in yard and plenty of exercise. She would love to go hiking and bikejoring with anyone willing to make her part of their family. Kaaos would do best in a home without cats or small children.
Kaaos does excellent with other dogs, and loves to play. She is non aggressive, but very high energy.

Kaaos makes friends with other dogs very quickly. Here she is with one of our frequent daycare guests, Zola.
Kaaos is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL young girl, and will be a wonderful addition to the family lucky enough to have her. We hope to see this sweetheart in a home soon.

Meet Deuce
Deuce is a very friendly, playful 1.5 year old Husky. He is looking for a new home where he can spend a lot of time with his people and maybe have another dog with whom to play. He is great with other dogs. Deuce likes to go on walks and hikes and would be a great companion for anyone looking for a fun, friendly dog. Deuce would do best in a home without cats.

Deuce gets along wonderfully with all of the other dogs in daycare, but really loves people the most when he is here. He is an absolute sweetheart and communicated well with the other dogs.

Deuce is so much more than just a pretty face. He is a fantastic dog and any family would be so lucky to call him their own. He has quickly wiggled into the hearts of all the Ruff House staff, and for good reason.

Please, if you have room in your home and hearts, consider one of these wonderful dogs, or check out the list of adoptable dogs with a local rescue. Arctic Breed Rescue here in Utah has many great dogs just looking for wonderful, FOREVER homes in which to be loved and spoiled. These are just two of the many dogs across the state waiting for their special day to roll around.

We're having a Blast!!

For most, September means it's back to the grind. Time to strap down, get back to school and work, and wait for Summertime to roll around once again...But not for our Furry friends at Ruff House! Fall just means more daycare and playtime for them! We're having an absolute BLAST playing with your furkids while you're working all day, and it is our pleasure to have them!
Daycare is an excellent way to socialize your pooch, keep him from being home alone all day, and get all that energy out. Just take a look at how much fun we have together!Zailey the Great Dane puppy is a new face at Ruff House, and loves to come with her sister Annie to play with all of her new friends, we're excited to watch her grow!
Zoe, another Great Dane, has joined us recently and loves to play with all the other dogs and just loves life! She made friends with Bella, the Golden Retriever right away!

Stella had the best first day of daycare ever, just look at that smile! She was a bit timid at first, but warmed up so quickly and really adores the staff and all her new friends!

Kaaos leads the pack to the outside play yard, where our furry friends love to romp and play in the sunshine! While your pup is playing with us, he or she will always have indoor AND outdoor access, and of course, lots of love, attention, friends, and fresh, cool water!

Raider the Beagle comes to daycare a couple of times a week and has so much fun! Here he is with his buddies, Kaaos and Aspen.

We replenish the water buckets all day long, to make sure all our guests stay hydrated!

Hi I'm Bella a shepherd/lab mix. I love to play in the snow, I prefer to pull sleds and run really really fast. I like to bark when my mama is gone so I get to come to Ruff House where I have friends all day long....Yay for a dog's life!

I am Jaeger, a cream puff golden retriever. I am as kind and gentle as a ladybug, although if it came down to it I may try to eat a ladybug. I love love love coming to Ruff House and playing with my friends. I prefer the super hairy ladies but I'll play with just about everyone.

I am Artemis, you can call me 'Ari' I am a native american indian. I was rescued by Heather. My new mama works at Ruff House so I will be there almost daily. I love my new home and my new life, however if you leave the front door open I am more than happy to take off and explore my new surroundings.

My name is Gus, I am a cane corso. I am only 5 months and will get much bigger. I am excited to be the biggest of all the dogs at Ruff House. I really like to give kisses and snuggle up to peoples legs. Everyone tries to kiss my face though and sometimes I don't want to kiss people all the time. Oh well, I guess that is just what happens at this Ruff House place.

My name is Chesney, I am a spotted cocker spaniel. I'm not really a new gal but I am introducing my friend Porcha, she is a Coton and she is small and timid. I am trying to show her how this place works and what fun it is. She is really interested in me and loves to follow me around.

Sadie is a St. Bernard/Pyrenees is a gentle giant looking for a new home. She is still waiting to get spayed. I checked her out and her personality is very playfully passive. She is happy and loves human affection...who doesn't?...She is a large breed who doesn't need a lot of excercise. She will be happiest with a family who offers lots of love and attention and mellow walks and playtime at the park.

DOGGIE TRAINING CLASS!!
We are very excited to have the opportunity to offer dog training classes CONTINUALLY. We believe that a well trained dog makes everything better and everyone happier. This class is for dogs who have had some basic training and either need to continue on with intermediate skills or for those who need some freshing up to do.

For years and years, dog training was almost entirely problem-based. People would offer limited supervision and instruction to their dogs and then punish them whenever they broke rules that they didn’t even know existed. Yet, if we objectively time-sample behavior, we find that even very badly behaved (uneducated) dogs (and people) are actually good most of the time. For example, observe your dog for half an hour and every two minutes or so ask the simple question, “Is he being good or bad?” You will find that he is being good well over 90% of the time. But in the normal course of the day, most of a dog’s good behaviors are ignored. Instead owners are more likely to pay attention to the dog when he barks, or when he steals, chews or runs away with inappropriate articles. So much so in fact, that many dogs quickly learn that misbehaving is the very best way to get their owners attention. Indeed, many dogs will bark, steal, chew and run away with inappropriate articles simply to get their owners to respond or at least acknowledge their existence.

Dogs are social animals and absolutely thrive on social interaction, communication and feedback regarding the appropriateness of their behaviors. Dogs need oodles and oodles of attention (and affection), so lets give it to them when they are good.
One of the most magically powerful training techniques is to ignore all unwanted and inappropriate behavior and instead, to pay attention to and reinforce good behaviors.
Observe your dog and whenever he does something you like, simply say, “Good dog” and give him a delicious morsel. For example, reward your dog whenever he sits, lies down, stops whining/barking/howling/growling (shushes), stops jumping (four on the floor), looks at you, or looks cute.

We will be offering training courses for those who want to work with the support of others while working with their dog in a distracting, yet controlled environment at Ruff House.

*Requirements: Dogs need to have some basic training; “sit”, “down”, “stay”, “watch”, “leave-it”, “off”, “heal”…stuff like that. We will work on these and add to them as well.

*Bring: leash, chewy treats, patience and lots of LOVE!

All the dogs are ready for a well-deserved nap at the end of the day

'Gozer' is such a sweet boy. He is a golden-doodle, and keeps all the dogs happy!
This lovely lady is 'Autumn'. She is at Ruff House for her first time, but already is a hit with all the others! We couldn't enjoy her more!
'Rocky'. He is the sweetest German Shepherd. He is huge too, but he thinks he's just a little pup.
Don't we all love those dogs that come up to us without being asked? It is so wonderful to see a bounding puppy run up just to be with you!
'Bear' and 'Chaca' may not be biological brothers, but they are at heart! They are both lab puppies, about the same age.
'Toby' is such a cutie! He is a little scared of the big dogs, but most bichons are like that. Once Toby made friends with 'Poli,' another bichon, he was as happy as can be.
'Cooper' is our big boy. He is a golden Retriever who just loves everyone and everything!
Sweet little 'Scout'. We will miss you when you go!
'Chloe' and 'Duke' are BEST OF FRIENDS! They sleep together, eat together and play together! Hey, they even live together!
'Becker,' a Yellow Labrador Retriever, is another newcomer to Ruff House. He is such a people-dog. He will follow us everywhere he possibly can, and we don't mind in the least!
'Coco' can't wait to pose for the camera!
Oh, 'Stockton'! He is such a funny character! He seems to think that you play with humans and cuddle with dogs!
'Sneek' is a lover! We absolutely love to watch her and have her stay with us! She will find places to "hide" and sit there as soon as she gets tired, which is sometime in the late morning.

'Hudson' and 'Tira' snuggling up together on the couch. These two have the silliest personalities. Never a dull moment and with those eyes its really hard not to kiss them over and over again.

'Scout' the boxer pup thinks so too...

'Jesse' and 'Leyah' love running into Ruff House and immediately snuggling up on the couch for some sunshine.

'Scout' is supporting 'Leyah' as she struggles with the 'cone of shame' sometimes when you won't leave a wound alone you have to wear such devices. I do...you do...we all do...(thats what we keep telling her)'Sneek' often tries to sneek out of the yard and into the front office. When you can climb fences you have a bit more opportunity to get what you want.

'Bella' YAY we finally got a face shot. She is always trying to dodge the camera...silly girl!

Dogs, dogs everywhere. We are loving the sunshine. We get to open up the garage doors and let the sunshine pour in.

Ruff House is pleased to announce our puppy training classes! These will be excellent for you puppies. Puppy training classes are your link to a better trained, happier, and healthier dog! With the proper training and patience, any dog can be a well-trained and positive part of your life. Starting the dog while it is young is the key to easier and faster training.

We are also excited to be offering puppy socialization throughout the summer. This will occur each Saturday and go from 1-3.

Thank you everyone for attending the puppy social. It was so much fun to play with all the furry babies. We want to thank Lynne for snapping all the photos during the play session. Everyone got so caught up playing with the pups that we almost forgot to take pictures of the fun.

We felt the social was so great that we are going to start puppy training classes in March. Keep up on Ruff House News for more updates. We couldn't do it without all your support, all our customers and furry pals make Ruff House what it is. We love and appreciate you all so so much. We love when we get young children interested in playing with the pups. They really enjoy all the activity as much as the dogs and they keep it youthful and lively.

Here is little 'Jayke' and Aryelle. He is a terrier mix. He was shy at first and hid under the couch. Once he noticed all the fun he was missing out on, he quickly joined in. Socializing dogs is so wonderful. In just two hours we were able to help Jayke become more confident when around other dogs.

'Aspen' yes, those are brown spots on this dalmatian. She is a bundle of energy. She has the face of an otter with those little white whiskers.

'Zola' a rottweiler is a gem to have playing daily at the Ruff House. She is a large breed and it is soo important to make sure these little dogs get a lot of socialization in before they are big and too hard to handle when around other dogs. She is wonderful.

Heather gets the attention of a group of pups for a little treat time. Amazing how they learn so quickly what is expected of them.

On the couch, on our laps, these guys where bouncing off the walls. It was so fun to watch them play together. We know most of you don't allow your pets on the furniture at home, we don't either but this is Ruff House...the dogs own this place.

Alisa is surrounded by little rascals. Sometimes you have to watch your legs...they can take you out when you least expect it.

It was a beautiful day outside and we had fun hanging out in the backyard with everyone.

Everyone is interested in yummy morsels hidden deep in the hands of Tarah. Unless they earn it with a 'Sit' or a 'Leave it' they don't receive such goodness.

Poli is a getting groomed. He sits so well on the table Heather doesn't have to use a leash to keep him put.

When dogs get touched and groomed by their owners they feel safe when being groomed. Making your dog comfortable with human touch is a very important social skill for the animal to have. Especially, if your dogs breed is one that must get groomed often.

Here he looks at Heather waiting to be touched, handled and caressed. This is just like a massage or a hair style appointment for us.

We always hate the day when we lose a wonderful employee, co-worker, dog expert and friend. Lindsey Adams is getting married Friday December 18th and moving to Las Vegas with her new husband. We got some new rope toys...which won't last long, but a blast anyhoo...and all the dogs took turns playing and tugging at the frayed edges. Honestly, they watched the other dogs play and then took turns tugging at the rope with each other, no fighting, biting, pushing, or shoving. It was soo much fun to watch the play in action.
Proof that it was a playful session with love. Little 'Leyah' got her turn as well. She doesn't look too interested though...

Oh so gentle, even little 'annie' is involved.

Scruffy face...'Plato' was such a riot. He has the greatest personality. His look fits him perfectly.

Shhhh! 'Bella' is sleeping. We got another cozy futon and the kids love to doggie pile on it together.

'Schoggi' is always at ease with a ball and a cot. This little rambunctious one is 4 yrs old yet acts and looks like she is still a puppy. Some doggies never grow up...thank goodness!

Tug-a-war is always a fun game when being supervised.

Wow! We sure did have a wild and crazy time this thanksgiving.

Honestly, we couldn't be more thankful.

Thank you thank you thank you to all who support us and allow us to love and play with your furry babies. We truly have the best job ever.

Just thinking about a monstrous stuffed turkey is making 'Sekoya' lick her lips. Little does she know i'm not sharing...haha!

These crazy doggies were a challenge to get photos of. They didn't slow down for days. Hopefully they rested once they got home. Owners love it when they pick up their dogs and they sleep for 2 days. Rest assure that is exactly what we want them to do.

Oh my! How do you not fall in love with dogs?? Look at the love they share. Snuggling close to one another. They are so smart. If only I could slip in between without them moving.

Little 'Leyah' snuck herself up. She is our newest little puppy friend. We can't get enough of puppies. Right now we have little 'Annie' banannie the boxer pup and 'Leyah'

'Teddy' was a new buddy staying for Thanksgiving.

'Raiders' mom had a baby over Thanksgiving. He was staying with us and no his eyes don't really look like that. It would be cool if they did though.

He was a small little guy but he only wanted to play with the rowdy big dogs.

'Dexie' was a proud little shit zhu who stayed for his first time and was a happy camper when the pups would hop off the couch so he could lounge around in peace.

Getting Ready for Thanksgiving!!

As some of you know we have been doing some up keep on our facility, with dogs it tends to wear out quickly. We had a lot of spectators making sure we did a dog gone good job, hopefully those fur balls enjoy the work we've put into the place.

Bright white pup on a bright green chair...what a great combo.

Dogs sure do come in all sizes. This Newfoundland is a pup believe it or not. They can sometimes reach over 200 lbs. imagine the size of their droppings.

A good little snuggle on the futon. The dogs love the couches and futons at Ruff House. They find friends and snuggle away in the afternoons...so precious!

'Lola' she is trying to tell us about her stay here at Ruff House. She is so excited to have so many friends to play with this weekend.

YAY!! we love it when we are full. This weekend is going to be a blast. We sure do have a lot of black dogs. Two black labs with the same collars and the same size...good thing we're good at telling the dogs apart. To us, they are completely different!!

'Leo' and 'Tank' are two examples of how lovely pit bulls can be. These guys want nothing more than to slobber all over you. We don't discriminate against any breeds at Ruff House. If your dog passes our temperament interview they are more than welcome to play with the clan. Both Leo and Tank brought huge smiles to our faces this weekend.

Our newest employee 'Jon' is helping us love the dogs, they seem to be loving him right back.

Bear & Bella-super playful, regular daycare kids, fully loved by all the staff, gold.

Each day at Ruff House presents a new beginning. We never know what to expect and who to see, which keeps us on our toes with excitement.

Although...

These regular pals come weekly to daycare if not daily and always make our days so bright. We truly LOVE seeing their faces every time they come to visit...we are all so thankful for the opportunity to play and love these special animals. If you visit Ruff House any day during the week you may come to recognize some of these fluffy guys. These are just some of our Daycare regulars...

Thank you to all of our loyal customers, you have helped us create a wonderful place for your loved one.

Bear-
Always up for playing fetch...all day long she will bring you the ball and wait patiently until you through it. She can play this over and over. If we ever need to take a break and let her rest a simple "enough" will get her to stop. Such a bright dog and filled with so much love. We never have to worry about new guests with Bear around, she will sniff them out and make sure that they meet her code of doggie ethics before she will play with them...and just look at her smile :-)

Joon-Bug-

For anyone who is visiting Ruff House you may run into Joon in the lobby. She is a vibrant playful little girl but her elbow displasia keeps her limited to how many hours she can rough house a day. You'll never see her want to stop playing, she can out play most dogs so a nice little break in the lobby is the best thing for her special little legs. With out a doubt a happy, happy angel.

Riley-

She comes for half day daycare to get some social skills and energy out several times a day. Riley doesn't play fetch all that much she would much rather run after the dogs who are running after the ball and herd the dogs back to the staff and she does this perfectly. She always has a pink smile on her face and big eyes waiting for the next dog to run somewhere, anywhere, she just wants to chase them.

Sekoya-

A well behaved little rascal. She is the keeper of the herd. The mother hen in other words. If anyone is misbehaving this little girl will help the staff put things straight. She enjoys her alone time and loves to join Bear in a game of fetch. Between her and Bear we can get the entire clan chasing the ball for most of the day. By the end of the day the dogs, the staff, and the neighbors are all exhausted... yeah for Ruff House.

Shep-

Short for shepherd, is a german shepherd/husky mix. His coloring is absolutley gorgeous. He is a very well mannered dog and a good thing too since he is so large. He loves to eat his lunch while all the other dogs watch and drool. He has the funniest personality and loves to try and give you puppy dog eyes for attention. He was rescued...(how could you ever give up such a great dog???, we'll never understand) and has one of the best families a dog could have. He is camera shy, but not shy in any other way. Shep joined us in the photo for the Utah Valley Magazine photo shoot for the july/august issue. Check him out he's a star.

Greta-

This buttercream golden loves spending afternoons at Ruff House several times a week. She loves a good game of fetch but she would rather hold the ball and eat it then bring it back for another round. She gives us a good laugh. We are working on helping her share the toys and she is picking up on it wonderfully.

Lucy-or LuLu Bear

Yes, she is the most vocal of the Ruff House bunch. Lucy likes to explain every situation and tell many many stories while she is here...we wonder what goes on at her house cause she has so many things to tell us all. She is quick, agile, and rarely holds still. If you come to Ruff House while she is in the back, she will let you know she wants to meet you as she vocally greets you through the door. We have the best security system around. We love her and are very glad she comes to visit several times a week...she sure keeps the dogs exhausted.

Grissom & Champ-

No, Grissom is not a small dog...in his head at least. His best friend is Bella. He loves to play with his brother Champ but he would much rather follow Bella around and roll around the floor with her. He is always up for a good belly rub or just some lounging in your lap. His legs may be short but beware this little guy is a fast one. Champ is an amazing shepherd with floppy ears. He is big, gentle and loves to make sure all the other dogs are behaving. If there is a scuttle Champ will quickly get involved to help stop it, at least that is what we think he is doing. He is very obedient and his response time to commands is simple brilliant.

Bella-

She is floppy, clumzy, silly, slobbery, and loves to eat.eat.eat. This little girl comes to Ruff House daily. She will show up, play for about three hours...non stop and then find a corner and crash for about two hours. She is very good at ignoring the other dogs when she is tired. Oh if all dogs could do that. She loves to beg for a treat whenever she leaves...and her daddy surely gives in almost each time...she makes us laugh!

Zohar-

"Enlightened One" and he truly is. This dog is soooo smart. He can communicate with the other dogs and the staff so well. He is so tender and loving. He'll come up to you and rest his head on our leg so that we will pet him and rub his little nose. He can sure play his heart out as well. We will often find him prancing around like a young pup when frolicing with the others. We all look forward to seeing Zohar. When he is done playing for a while you can always catch him lying on a cot taking a snooze. He makes us all jealous sometimes.

We Want The Toy!!!

We love it when the dogs show manners. This weekend we worked on having one toy between ALL the dogs. Toy and food aggression can be avoided when you work with your dog teaching them to be patient...which can be taught believe it or not.
'Lady' is playing with the ball while the other dogs are patiently waiting for her to get up so they can snag it out from underneath her. This must be done with full supervision to avoid any problem. This weekend we have great success.

Again playing with a chew toy 'Charlie' keeps it away from the others and they wait for him without growling or jumping up at his face...what good dogs. All you owners should be very proud.

'Tessa' was all smiles this weekend. She loved playing at Ruff House. It was her first visit here.

'Finn' has such a great personality. He is a Westie with some serious spunk.

Come on doggies squish through the door all at once...this happens so often. Sometimes they even get stuck. Haha!

Look at that face on 'Turbo'. He enjoyed sticking to himself and just watching the other dogs share the toys. He was more interested in getting a good rub down while sitting on the staff's lap.

'Gretta' was a herding maniac this weekend. This little ball of energy usually runs after her Dad's mountain bike each day. Since she was staying at Ruff House she was running after all the dogs during the games of fetch each day...her energy still never seemed to dwindle.

Pioneer Day Weekend!

Yes, we live in Utah and so we get to take another day off of work to celebrate being a Utahan...or a pioneer...oh wait, at Ruff House we don't take the day off...haha! We are usually busier during the holiday's so we take time off the week before or after a holiday. Our staff was great this weekend helping our with our full load of hairy critters.

'Gretta' getting the smell down from the other dogs. Dogs love it when a new daycare pal gets dropped off. They're all checking her out to see if she'll want to play with them...

'Trigger' was all talk during his stay. This hound has a lot of stories to tell and he wanted to get each and every one out before he had to go home.

'Wrigley' smiled continuously the entire weekend long...

Ruff House was filled with golden dogs this week. We had 2 golden retriever pups, and 4 adult golden retrievers, two golden labs, a golden corgi, golden shepherd, and the famous black & golden border collie 'Daisy' good thing we're good at telling all the dogs apart from one another.
'Nala' giving us her lovely smile. She was all smiles everyday. Such a loving girl. Theres 'Daisy' in the background showing her colors.

'Lucky' is a red haired golden...mmm they sure are pretty.

Shhhh, baby 'Roxie' is trying to take a nap...it won't last long but we will surely allow her to try. 'Good Girl Roxie'

4TH Of July!!!!!

4th of July weekend was nicely packed with no other than the king of pack animals....DOGS!! Our staff had their work cut out for them as they ran and played and cleaned. It was go go go all weekend. Boy, these dogs are going to sleep well when their vacation is over.

'Jazz' was all smiles while the other dogs slobbered on this little brain. That tends to happen when you play with the big guys.

Beaner and Cara came to join us at Ruff House this weekend. They are some of our home visit guests. We really enjoyed having their presence here though.

Small, Medium, Large

Funny thing about dogs...they don't care their size! We mix large, small and medium dogs together and they get along PERFECTLY!! We have the option to separate the dogs with our larger facility, however, we rarely need to do so. Dogs are companion animals and they love companionship no matter what their size is. This weekend we had a fun mix of furry, slobbery kids. Dogs on the move...where they're going...no one knows!

Perhaps its to hang out with our newest employee Rebecca. They sure do love her and you can see why, she gets right into the mix of the fun.

By the mid afternoon we all like a good lounging time on the couches. They dogs love to snuggle with our staff. Sorry for all those owners who hate dogs on furniture, at Ruff House the dogs rule!

'Bella Bean' taking a moment to gather her thoughts in the corner. She sometimes gets sleepy and finds a secluded spot away from all the noise. Such a great personality. This is a girl who knows what she wants.

We saw dogs of all sizes, shapes and wearing all kinds of cute accessories. Ahhhh what a great job.

Our staff sporting some ruff house wear...

People and Pets were everywhere. The turn out was amazing. So many supporters and so many happy doggies.

The walkers came with their families for support. Many children were excited to see so many dogs. It teaches the kids the importance of support and service.

We had a blast at Strut-Your-Mutt on Saturday. Thanks to all of you who helped donate for the cause. We only hope that all our efforts will help give loving homes to pets in need.

Sekoya, Joonbug, & Grissom were pooped by the end of the day, they loved the event.

'Kakoa' is a male boxer/spitz mix. He is just over a year old, neutered and beautiful. He currently lives with a large German Shepherd and has been coming to Ruff House since he was a pup. He is social, yet slightly timid with new people. His owner just had a baby and has her hands full. Would do best with an outdoor area to play.

'Shadow' is a wolf/husky mix. She is over two years old and incredibly friendly. She is spayed. She has been coming to us for about 6 months now. She loves to be touched, petted, and enjoys sharing lots and lots of kisses. Would be perfect in any home environment.

We've Grown!!

We are very excited to announce we have expanded. We now have two playgyms for the dogs to have even more indoor fun. We have added more kennels, lengthened the outdoor area, replaced the K-9 turf and got a few more cozy couches to lounge around on. We couldn't have done it without all our wonderful customers and furry pals...Thanks to you all!!!

Spring has Sprung!

Baking in the sun...we love the fresh rays in the morning. The dogs will join the staff outside to lounge around after breakfast and feel the warmth of the spring. We all love their furry company.

'Shadow' is all smiles after being freshly groomed. She got rid of her winter coat and is feeling wonderful now that she can feel the wind in her fur.

'Bear' is always happy when she gets the chew toys away from the other dogs...

The afternoon naps are one of our favorite times of the day. 'Sekoya' and 'Charlie' look fully relaxed on the cool floor indoors.

Amber, Joon, Sekoya, and I all enjoyed watching the ididarace in Park City on Saturday. The weather was spectacular, the company was exciting, and the events were a hit.
We got a great welcoming with a hot air balloon directly above the race.

The dogs loved to work and work...there was no stopping them, they were driven.

Our weekend was filled with love....love for the four-legged fur balls we enjoy so much.

We had a fun crew this weekend and it is wonderful when they all get along soooo well.
With some fresh new snow to add to the mix our weekend was full of hearts and kisses.

'Iby' is such a great dog to have here, she plays and plays with everydog. some dogs pick friends and then stick together with that one dog....similar to human socialization, however, little 'Iby' enjoyed the entire mix.

She even liked the toy box.......no, she wasn't in a time out.

Some of our dogs bring with them wonderful talents.....'T-Bone' learned to open the back door on her own. Now we close it to preserve heat indoors and she'll run and open it whenever a dog goes towards it......sooo handy!

Squeaky Clean!!

We love cleaning up the dogs at Ruff House.....they don't always like smelling like sweet roses, but their owners sure do appreciate the yummy smell.

Sekoya has always been a champ when it comes to bathtime. She knows if she wants to continue sleeping on the bed at home she had better cooperate during her cleaning.

Her soggy little body looks pitiful, but rest assure, after her delicious treat she was all smiles:))

Tito and Toby may look like puppies still but these boys just get the puppy cut for yorkies. Kayleigh our groomer does an amazing job with all the grooms....there isn't a cut she can't purr-fect!!

Kakoa and Shylo got a little dirty after rolling in something in the mountains.....oh how dogs love to smell like dirt. We freshened them up in a jiffy!!

Our Christmas Adventure

It is always fun to have snow on the ground for Christmas. The dogs loved going outside to play with each other and enjoy all the smells of the outdoors.All of the dogs seemed to get along this week, there were a few times where the dogs played too well and needed to take a breather and grab a satisfying drink.

Little "Ollie" the boston terrier ran and ran around all the big dogs. Bostons seem to be so similar in their personalities. They are large dogs in small bodies. Ollie has this little sound he makes as he tries to lick you to death....it was super funny.

"Charlie" loved the outside. He had so much energy and was hoping all over Ruff House.

"Jason" the rottie, and "Navy" the mastiff mix, became instant buddies. They would play and play and wrestle all day. We had to separate them at times so that they would quit bumping into all of us. They were the biggest dogs of the pack........just a reminder, never eat yellow snow!

The little Shit Zhu "Romeo" found himself taking naps in the middle of the day. He would walk by his kennel and give a little whine. As soon as you placed him inside he would curl up in his bed and enjoy an afternoon snooze.....if only the others would take on this habit.

Romeo found himself a little girlfriend "Zoe" a maltese. They were so cute together. They would often snuggle on the round chair together.... look at their cute little coats. What a sweet couple.

Bronco, a collie mix, protected Zoe the entire time they were here. If another dog got too close to Zoe he would push himself in between them to separate the dogs. He followed her everywhere, poor Romeo had to limit his time with her. Zoe had such confidence prancing around Ruff House saying "look at me, I have my own bodyguard."

Charlie was all about giving everyone lots and lots of kisses. He would dip his nose in the water bowls and them jump on us trying to give slobbery wet kisses all over.....mmmmmm.

The entire staff was go go go all week, sometimes we found a good 2 min. break to sit down and rest for a bit....but it only lasted 2 minutes max. I think all the staff got just as much exercise as all the furry guests, maybe even a little extra since we had to do all the cleaning.

Well......lets see how the new year weekend treats us, Christmas was a BLAST!!!

3 Days Away!!!

Christmas is only 3 days away......yeah!!!

We are all excited at Ruff House. Our playground is going to be packed full with so many friends. With so much excitement on its way we have been busy, busy, busy.

Having a white Christmas is just what we asked for.

Amber and Gus are telling each other their Christmas wishes....."bones, bones, and squeaky toys!!!!"

The dogs are such good friends here, they love to follow one another around always drinking at the same time, sleeping at the same time, they even poop at the same time.....too funny!

Schoggi loves playing in the snow, how cute is that, some flakes lingering on the tip of her nose.

Gus, was a little shy at first, he is still a young pup, but by the end of his stay this little cowboy was having the time of his life. What a sweet little face.

Gus was accompanied by a little lady named "Remi" she was a cute little pug that had no problem letting us all know she's the boss!! You can't argue with that face....right?

Zohar is one of our snow dogs, with a nice thick coat he loves to go outside and smell the sweet, crisp air!!!

Shadow, the hybrid who shared her time with us was as sweet as they come, she also joined Zohar outside for some snow time. Most of our dogs really enjoy what the winter has to offer. Look that that two toned nose......one of a kind!!

Daisy got all dolled up for all her Christmas parties she is going to attend. She really is such a social gal and she looks perfect for hitting the town.
Cassie also got a new hair-do, she looks just like a puppy again....oh how we love the puppy cuts.

Thanksgiving Craziness!

Well, Ruff House hopes you had a great Thanksgiving. We sure did here. With a full house we were go go go all weekend long. Most of our dogs played so hard throughout the day that once it came time to feed they would fall asleep in their kennels before taking their night-time break. We just love wearing these little guys out.
The dogs were so curious about our crazy photographer....."what is he doing" they are all seeming to say.

What a fun weekend.....thanks to all who came to play with us!

There is always at least one in the pack that tends to take a rest here and there, but it doesn't happen too often.

Even amongst the chaos some dogs still found time to "sit" and receive a treat. "GOOD DOGS"

We love to expose the dogs to different kinds of surroundings as long as they are all under control. Here is our little Indie.....she just loves dogs and shows no signs of fear. The dogs loved her as well. Indie's little smile never left her face during her visit to Ruff House. It is very important to teach your children how to respond to dogs just as much as you teach your dog how to respond to children, this creates a well balanced relationship between the two.

Amber is trying to pick up Zeus. She loves to hold the dogs.......no matter what their size is.

Indiana getting his routine Spa Bath & Style. We love our groom clients. They usually stay and play for the day and bring everyone smiles.....and they smell oh, so good!

Here is another older cocker spaniel named "Annie" she came for a groom and cut as well. She is over 11 years of age and her face still looks like a puppy.

Mr. Zohar, his name meaning "enlightenment", sure has enlightened us at Ruff House......but beware this guy wants all the dogs to recognize his authority, WOOF!

Little Murray stayed boarded with us for the week and he sure had a thing for all the ladies.....I think he and Zohar were the ladies men.

Lukey-poo had a blast burning off his energy with the Ruff House Klan. That silly boy can play and play and play.

Beaner-brains, took some time alone to chew on her nylabone. Sometimes the dogs need some peace and quiet in their own crates to get in that chewing time. She seems very content!

Winters COMING!!

Winter is on its way! All the dogs at Ruff House are excited to have a new white playground to frolic in. Please make sure that if your dog has a short coat or gets cold really easy that they arrive with a warm sweater or coat. Even with the huge heater the warehouse has a draft.

Zeus is sooooo excited to see this white stuff all over the ground......we were informed that this is the first experience of snow he has had.....we are thrilled he is sharing it with us. He seems to like it alright!All the dogs are getting wild and crazy! There is something about this crystallized H2O that drives us all nuts!! Its just soo much fun!Zilla is making sure that Ellie stays warm by heating up her leg....looks like she's warm Zilla you can let go now. These two played for hours and hours together.

OH an exhausted Ellie snuggles up on the padded chair for an afternoon snooze.

Both Buddy and Elmo are perfectly suited for this winter with their nice double layer coats on....those things are natural too. How lucky! I want one!

Zilla and Mo are playing on the couch where it is warm and cozy. Their coats are getting a little thicker but their still pups and need to grow into them.

Chubbs winter gear.......speaks for itself! The floor works just fine for her.

Sophie came to play for the day after she got a nice Spa Bath and Brush.

She looks super tired. Daycare can sure wear you out. Oh look at the masterpiece in the background that Zilla and Mo made......how sweet to leave their impression on Ruff House!

Good little Callie is snug as a bug in a rug with her little terrycloth sweater on. She didn't shiver once!!

We are so excited for this winter. We know that it is much harder to walk your dog in the cold wet windy weather, so when its snowing outside bring your pooch to play indoors at Ruff House! See you all soon........

Oh....a face only a mother could love......
Tico is a Chinese Crested. He may be mostly hairless but he has a spunky personality that made him a favorite. All the other dogs agreed. I think he was the packs best friend during his stay. Shylo was checking the whole in the back fence to visit our neighbors. We got some knew neighbors and they bring a one year old pup Siberian Husky with them to work each day. The dogs enjoy spying on him. Probably thinking "why doesn't he come play with us.....we have soo much fun"
Yes, sometimes the dogs mouth-off to us. Here is some evidence of Tank doing so.
We had a new member Cece come and stay with the gang. She is 14 years old......and still looks like a puppy.

Otis and his new family member Lucy, were inseparable during their stay. Lucy's has such a fun spunky personality and we loved watching her learn to socialize with the other dogs. She did AWESOME a natural. Otis was very protective of her and followed her around while she explored Ruff House. Here they settled down for a split second to take a cozy nap together on our brand new sofa......do you like it?

They're at it again.....snuggling and snoozing together.
Oh now that is a sweet little face.....I want to kiss that wet nose.
